Having said that the Air Jordan 12 was the most durable among Jordan line, the next model has been tagged as the best performing sneaker and it is His Airness’ favorite. The Air Jordan 13 started its mission in 1998 to serve MJ with the best cushioning technology in a very light unit. It was Tinker Hatfield’s idea to create one outstanding shoe that will make history and legend.

When Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 13 which was later dubbed as the “Black Cat” or “Black Panther”, he was not aware that it’s MJ’s secret nickname. The fact was not elaborated further but a popular belief holds that a cat always lands on its feet. During a fall, a cat can reflexively twist its body and right itself using its acute sense of balance and flexibility. This characteristic of the cat can be applied to MJ’s way in the game, therefore having the “Black Cat” as his discrete nickname is justifiable.
The shoe’s Zoom Air, carbon-fiber plate and panther’s eye hologram serve MJ well as he captured a second regular season, All-Star and Finals MVP sweep, recorded tenth scoring title and first ever double three-peat. With all those MJ’s achievements, it is right to say that the Air Jordan 13 stole a moment to brag as the most famous shoe in the line.
A very unique sole of the shoe stood out while it featured an outsole with pads like a paw and circles conveying whiskers. Leather covering made up the toe whereas a carbon-fiber with tucks detailing wrapped the remainder except for the heel. The prominent hologram on the heel area showed a basketball, the number “23″, and the Jumpman logo images.
After the shoe’s OG colorway, five confirmed colorways were released in 2004. In 2005, two colorways dropped before Christmas which includes the famous Black/Red color-up. Low cut Air Jordan 13 also emerged later but those never caught the sneakerheads’ attention. Later on, more Retros and Samples were produced.
